The Open Carry Class is made up two parts. The Online portion and the Shooting portion. Please follow the exact steps below to get your LTC-104 and submit your application for your License to Carry to the Texas DPS.
Steps To Get Your Open Carry in TX
The process to get your handgun license in Texas can be a little confusing. To make it easy we listed out the exact steps to make sure you get everything done right the first time.
Complete the Online Class
Complete the 4 module online class. Progress on your video based class is automatically saved allowing you to come and go as needed giving you maximum flexibility. + You get unlimited Exam attempts.
Download and print your DPS LTC-104 from us and take that with you to your shooting proficiency exam (see step 2).
Shooting Proficiency Exam
You'll shoot 20 rounds from 3 yards, 20 rounds from 7 yards, and 10 rounds from 15 yards (completion time: 1 hour). Schedule this with a verified instructor in Baylor County, TX after you complete step 1.

Complete the DPS Application
Complete your application on the Texas DPS (Department of Public Safety) website.
We give you the full instructions on exactly where to go on the DPS website to do this, and how to complete it properly once you complete step 1 & 2.
Fingerprints
Get your fingerprints taken at Identogo. This is who the DPS uses for fingerprinting. The Fee is $10 and they send your digital fingerprints directly to the DPS for you.
Submit Training Documents
Submit your completed LTC-104 that your instructors signed off on to the DPS. You'll do this via the DPS website. We provide you the exact location on their website and how to do this after the class.
Texas DPS Mails You Your License
Once your application is processed and approved, the DPS will mail your license out to you. This typically takes about 4 weeks if done correctly. Please follow the exact instructions we give you in the course to make sure you get it done correctly the first time.

You can complete the classroom portion for your License to Carry online with Texas Carry Course and we will give your DPS issued LTC-104 form. You will then scheduled your shooting exam with a verified instructor that is local to you. How long does it take to get your License to Carry in Texas 2024?
Online Portion
The online course is 4 hours long. It's all video based and you can come and go as needed. Your progress is automatically saved.
Shooting Exam
The shooting exam is 1 hour long.
Getting Your License to Carry in Mail
After everything is submitted to the DPS it generally takes about 2-4 weeks to get your license in the mail. Please note that by law, the DPS does have UP TO 60 days to get it to you.
